*with assistance from a friend, of course. Doing major engine/transmission stuff alone is unsafe and not recommended without people in earshot.

Anyway, I'm taking a 6-day vacation because I need it, and I'm making my first Fiat post in a while. It's pic-heavy.

Day 1: Get the engine pulled from this and get it the hell out of the way.

Kinja'd!!!

Day 2: Drop the transmission in the Fiat and assess the damage.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

And, the busted-ass old gearbox out.

Kinja'd!!!

The new hotness:

Kinja'd!!!

Tomorrow's plan: Rebuild the driveshaft, shorten it by 100mm and order a new guibo and center support bearing, since it ripped the original one clean out of the body. Strip the interior, get ready to weld in new metal where the old one was ripped out.

I know it's not a rotary, but did you dance with it?

I preferred the carbureted fiats.

I'm strangely fond of the L-Jet, but I got my start playing with the LH-Jet Volvos and the old Nissan ECCS. Fuel injection, I understand. Carburetors are witchcraft I have yet to teach myself.

I understand carburetors and rebuild them. Fuel injection is devil's magic.

My next car is going to be either a S10-gen Silvia or a 510, and both options have me wanting sidedraft Webers.

I should grab some more pictures of his place, when the rain stops. Even if his Alfas sitting under the lean-to make me sad.

They're next on his project list, as soon as my Spider and his are both out of the way.
